MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
Dear CBAJ Family,
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat!
Today begins a period of time known as the Shloshet Yemei Hagbalah, the three days of "bounding off," three days of preparation that our ancestors undertook to ready themselves for Ma'amad Har Sinai (see Shemot 19:13).
To this day, we mark this period as a joyous preparation for our own re-acceptance of the Torah on Shavuot. While the most apparent change that is made during this time is to refrain from reciting Tachanun along with avoiding or limiting Hespedim (eulogies) and funerals, I encourage you to use this time to think about what it means to accept the Torah in preparation for Shavuot, and to reflect on and recommit ourselves to the mission that we were charged with, "V'atem tihyu li mamlechet kohanim v'goy kadosh - And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" (Shemot 19:6).
Thank you to everyone who participated in last month's community-wide Tekes Maavar to mark Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut! It was truly a powerful event.
The organizers of our speakers from Israel are raising funds for an organization dedicated to helping those impacted by October 7 and the war, and to healing for Israeli society, United for Life.
