MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
Dear CBAJ Family,
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat!
It is with a profound mix of grief and relief that we receive the news this morning that the IDF has returned home the bodies of two slain hostages from Gaza, Ilan Weiss, hy''d, and a second individual whose identity has not been confirmed.
Ilan Weiss, hy''d, was killed by Hamas terrorists on the morning of October 7, 2023 while defending his home, Kibbutz Be'eri, during the Hamas onslaught. His wife and daughter were also taken hostage and were released in the November 2023 ceasefire.
We anxiously await news about the identity of the second hostage whose body was recovered.
We stand resolutely, with tears and love, with the Weiss family and all of the hostage families during this painful and difficult time, with hope and with the demand that all hostages be released immediately.
This week marked by the 90th yahrzeit of the great Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook, ztz''l, one of the pioneers of Religious Zionism and one of the greatest thinkers in modern Jewish history. May his legacy of firm and committed faith, belief in the future of the Jewish people, his commitment to Eretz Yisrael, his profound religious creativity, and his ability to love and see the sanctity in all kinds of Jews, and his deep yearning for the Ultimate Redemption continue to inspire us.
Am Yisrael Chai.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Ben Kean
