MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat.
I would like to thank everyone for helping make Tisha B'Av a meaningful day of mourning and commemoration at CBAJ. In particular, I would like to recognize our Eikhah readers, Ra'anan Schwarzmer, Seth Rosenblum, Rabbi Silton (and myself); our Torah reader; Eitan Barlaz, our Haftarah reader, Michael Willen; those who delivered talks on Kinot Tisha B'Av morning, Rabbi Bomzer, Rabbi Silton, Rabbi Elon Weintraub, & Rabbi Rami Strosberg; and all of those who helped with setup and cleanup.
This Shabbat is known as Shabbat Nachamu, named after the Haftarah from this week which begins, "Be comforted, be comforted, My people--says your G-d" (Isaiah 40:1). Even in the immediate aftermath of tragedy, we are promised that our sins are forgiven and that Israel will be restored to its former glory.
This is a message that we ought to take with us in every situation that we find ourselves in every time--the truth that whatever sorrow we experience, G-d tells us to be comforted, for we are still his people.
I hope to see you soon at a tefilah, children's program, event, or class!
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Ben Kean
