MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
Dear CBAJ Family,
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat.
It is hard to believe that Rosh Hashanah is right around the corner! We have so many things planned for this weekend, for the Yamim Noraim season, and beyond. I hope that you will take advantage of all of our upcoming events and programs.
In particular, I want to highlight a few things: First: Youth groups start up again this week! Our new youth directors, Shore and Shajar, have so many wonderful ideas planned for the coming weeks. Please look out for communications from them of some upcoming youth programs.
Second: It is hard to believe that we are coming up the first anniversary of the Simchat Torah/October 7 massacres. Our community has a number of occasions to mark this: Amidah Albany is hosting a Vigil on October 6, the Jewish Federation and Capital District Board of Rabbis and Cantors is hosting a memorial on October 7 at CBE, and we at CBAJ will be honoring those we have lost at Yizkor on Shemini Atzeret, and with the dedication of a new Me'il (Torah cover) dedicated in memory of Saadia Yaakov Deri, hy''d.
We live in strange times, with our hearts and minds focused on the one hand on difficult and sometimes frightening developments, with a need to support those who are hurting, and simultaneously be able to celebrate our upcoming Yamim Tovim and carry on living rich, joyous, Jewish lives.
I hope to see you soon at a tefilah, shiur, or other event!
Am Yisrael Chai.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Ben Kean
