MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
Dear CBAJ Family,
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat.
I will be on vacation this week, leaving on Wednesday and returning on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you when I return.
If I may be permitted to say a few words on the election this week:
CBAJ will continue to recite the prayer for the US government exactly the same as we always have. Our duty to pray to G-d for both the welfare of the government and for it to be successful at creating a better society remains a constant, regardless of who is in power. This was true under Biden, who many in our community liked, and who many in our community disliked, and it will remain true under Trump, about whom the same is true.
I am confident that our shul will continue to be shared space for all looking to seek Hashem, to study His Torah, to live lives of mitzvot, and connect to Jewish community, regardless of partisan sentiment.
To that end, it is my hope that we can all continue to embrace each other, whether we are happy or frustrated with this week's results, and that our discourse continues to be respectful toward each other, including with those with whom we disagree.
Am Yisrael Chai.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Ben Kean
CBAJ INITIATIVES IN SUPPORT OF ISRAEL
1. Skin Cream for Chayalim. In partnership with former Israeli shaliach to Albany, Yael Reshef, CBAJ will be sending 400 tubes of Aquaphor to soldiers serving on the frontlines, many of whom are experiencing extremely dry and cracked skin. If you are interested in supporting this initiative, please donate to the CBAJ Rabbi's discretionary fund, and put "Skin Cream for Chayalim" in the notes.
2. Partnership with EPIC Family. CBAJ is proud to partner with Epic Family, an organization that provides support and counseling to children living in Israel. Epic Family has seen a tremendous uptick in need in the past year since October 7 due to the war. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to support care for one child for one year, or recruit 20 people to give $25 per month for 1 year. Click here to view the flyer or visit EPIC Family's websiteto learn more. As part of this initiative, we are excited to welcome Rabbi Shlomo Pinkus, global director of EPIC family, to speak at CBAJ on Sunday, November 10, about the situation in Israel and EPIC Family's work. Details to follow.
