MESSAGE FROM RABBI KEAN
Dear CBAJ Family,
On behalf of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob, I would like to wish you and your family a restful and meaningful Shabbat.
I would like to thank everyone who helped organize and everyone who attended our Tu B'Shevat Paint, Plant, and Sip event this past Wednesday night and our Family Learning Night last weekend!
"And the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion, and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away." - Isaiah 35:10
It is with great gratitude to Hashem that we welcome back to Israel hostages released last Shabbat, Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami, and Or Levy, even as we are outraged and horrified by the poor health and condition they were in after 16 months of unspeakable torture. Eli Sharabi learned upon being returned home to the tragic news that his wife and two daughters had been murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7. Eli's brother, Yossi, was kidnapped in by Hamas as well, and died in captivity, where his body remains. Or Levy was reunited with his 3 year old son, but was also confronted with the confirmation of his suspicion that his wife Einav had been murdered on October 7. Ohad Ben Ami's wife Raz Ben Ami was also abducted on October 7 and held hostage until she was released in November 2023.
We wait with baited breadth for news of the three hostages due to be released over Shabbat this week, Sagui Dekel-Chen, who will meet his daughter born one month after he was taken hostage for the first time; Sasha Troufanov, who father was killed on October 7 and whose mother, grandmother, and girlfriend were all taken hostage before being released in November 2023; and Iair Horn, whose younger brother Eitan Horn tragically remains in captivity. We continue to pray and anxiously await the return of all the hostages cruelly being held by Hamas terrorists, especially in light of the shocking condition that Eli, Ohad, and Or were in when they were returned to Israel.
Am Yisrael Chai.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Ben Kean

CBAJ COMMUNITY
Announcing a new CBAJ Program! The Shabbat and Yom Tov Meal Matching Program Our goal is to promote hachnasat orchim (welcoming guests) and strengthen the friendship bonds among people in our community. This is a trial process for the local Albany community. This is an opportunity to either volunteer to host members of our community, or to request a seat at a Shabbat or Yom Tov table.
We are eager for everyone to attend our services and programs and to feel welcome and safe while in our building. Anyone who has symptoms of any illness or is not feeling well is strongly encouraged to stay home. Better to miss services than risk spreading illness. While in attendance, frequent hand-washing is encouraged as well as minimizing close contact with others.
